“Skateboarding for me has always been about having fun.
This world brings many challenges in it, each one harder than its predecessor.
Skateboarding can be a kind of coach for those challenges.
All the time, energy and effort spent into learning how to do it, and that’s just the basics!
It’s a humble reminder than there’s a lot of work to do if you want to get good at something.
With all that said it’s also kind of the opposite, in that it reminds you that you don’t need a lot just to have fun.
I am grateful for skateboarding in so many ways. The lessons, the laughter and all the wonderful people I have been fortunate to meet and share this experience with.
Skating for Shrunken Head Skates is an honor, as it is way more than a local skate shop.
It’s the place where people can go meet their friends, socialise, become inspired by the shops aesthetic, the culture and even the staff!
And yes, you can get a tattoo and leave with some fresh ink and wood.” - DJ.
Dean ROBERTSON
It’s safe to say Dean is the oldest member of the skateboard team. With almost a quarter of a century of riding behind him — 23 years as of 2026 — there’s not much he hasn’t seen or done in skateboarding. His experience ranges from competition wins and magazine coverage to releasing a full part for Drawing Boards, marking the end of an era after riding for that well-established UK board brand for over a decade.
Now a father to his beautiful son, Caesar, and well into his 30s, skateboarding has taken on a new meaning for him. To keep himself motivated, he tries to land tricks that are new to him and that he hasn’t done before. He’s one of many skateboarders who continue well into adulthood and keep skateboarding as a lifelong hobby.
Dean rides for Shrunken Head because it is his local shop, and he loves the tattoo and piercing culture Duncan has so eloquently brought together with skateboarding under one roof. He has also shown his devotion to the shop by getting numerous tattoos from different Shrunken Head artists over the years, since it has been in business.
ALFIE EVANS
At just 12 years old, Portsmouth-based Alfie is the youngest member of the Shrunken Head Skates team. He joined in 2024 after being spotted at the local Shrunken Head skate jams with his love for transition skating.
Alfie’s skating journey began in 2021, when he came home from school and asked for a skateboard- and he has barely put it down since. In 2022, he challenged himself to skate every day for an entire year and succeeded. In 2026, he took on the challenge again, this time raising funds to help build a new full-size vert ramp in the UK.
You’ll often spot Alfie in his infamous sparkly green helmet, skating a mini ramp- including the one his dad built in the garage- searching out great bowls around the UK or working on tricks on a vert ramp. Inspired by Bob Burnquist, Gui Khury, JD Sanchez and Tom Schaar, he also loves competition skating and took part in his first Skateboard GB UK Nationals at Concrete Waves in Newquay in July 2026. Blunts are his favourite tricks, and he has learnt more than 30 variations over the years.
Alfie loves being part of the Shrunken Head Skates team - especially the pizza and skate-movie nights! He also rides for local skateboard brand Deckadence, whose decks are stocked at the shop.
